Dhaka-- (UNB) – A Japanese bank team yesterday assured that they would take up new projects, including infrastructure development, in Bangladesh for further strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation Hiroshi Yasuda conveyed the offer to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when he called on the PM at her parliament office in the afternoon.

Yasuda, who is here leading a delegation for on-the-spot appraisal of development schemes, told Hasina that he was impressed at the progress of various projects financed by the JBIC.

The JBIC governor told the Prime Minister that his bank would also provide assistance for the development of socioeconomic condition of the people, including financing the Asrayan project.

Finances for construction of the Padma Bridge also came up for discussion in the meeting and Yasuda responded positively for conducting feasibility study of the bridge. The Japanese Agency for International Cooperation will take the initiative for the study.

He expressed the hope that Japanese assistance and investment in Bangladesh would increase in future.

Hasina thanked the delegation for their visit and gave brief resume of various activities of the government for socioeconomic uplift.

“The people of Bangladesh are getting benefits of the socioeconomic programmes we have undertaken,” the Prime Minister told them.

ERD Secretary Dr AKM Masihur Rahman and delegation members Hiroshi Jingu, Yuji Morimoto, Shinichi Ota and Yasunori Onishi were present in the meeting.
